Compress PDF
Reduce size by recompressing embedded images and rewriting the file. Your PDF never leaves this device.

BrowseWhat this does
FilesStay looks for JPEG and simple bitmap images inside the PDF, recompresses them, then writes a new file. Text stays as text. It does not flatten pages into a giant picture, and it does not OCR.
- Photos and scans usually shrink. Text-only PDFs often do not.
- Password-protected files cannot be opened here.
- Work happens in your browser. We never receive the file.
Strength or target size?
Use How hard to squeeze when you just want a smaller file. Balanced is a good default; Higher quality keeps photos sharper; Smaller file trades sharpness for size.
Use Target size when a form or inbox has a hard limit. FilesStay tries the gentlest setting first, then steps down until the file fits, and tells you the final size in bytes. It cannot promise every file will fit: if most of the weight is text, fonts or drawings, there is nothing for it to squeeze.
Questions
Is it really free with no limit?
Yes. The work runs on your device, so there is no server cost per file and no daily counter. You do not need an account.
Why did my PDF barely shrink?
Usually because it has few or no photos. Text, fonts and vector drawings are already compact, and this tool leaves them alone.
