BrowseHow to reduce a PDF to 500 KB
- Drop your PDF above. The target is set to Under 500 KB.
- Click Compress. The tool tries a gentle setting first and only gets stricter if the file is still too big.
- Check the final size and the setting used, then download.
What fits in 500 KB?
500 KB leaves a fair amount of room. Most scanned documents of up to 10–20 pages fit with text that is still easy to read, and photo-heavy reports of a few pages often fit too. Text-based PDFs (exported from Word or a web page) are usually already this small.
Files that may not fit: long scans of hundreds of pages, brochures with large embedded fonts, and PDFs whose images use formats this tool cannot re-encode (for example some black-and-white fax-style scans, which are already very compact). In those cases you will get the smallest version we could make and a note saying it is still over the target.
Tips if it is still too big
- Remove blank or unneeded pages with Remove pages.
- Split a long file into two uploads with Split PDF, if the form allows more than one file.
- If you made the PDF from photos, rebuild it from smaller images with JPG to PDF, then compress it.
Your PDF is processed by this browser tab only. It is not uploaded, and there is no account or daily limit.
Questions
Why not just pick the smallest setting?
Because it costs quality you may not need to lose. The target mode stops at the gentlest setting that fits.
Does it change my original file?
No. Your original stays as it is. You download a new copy with “-compressed” in the name.
